Rules of access to your mailbox

  1. No one has access to a mailbox without a key

  2. Access is controlled by the mailbox renter by controlling access to the mailbox key

  3. The mailbox renter has the only key

  4. Only the Postal Inspector has access to the mail and only to inspect the envelope

  5. No one can open your mail without a court order

Process to rent mailbox

  1. Complete Post Office Form 1583

    1. Gives the post office the right to deliver your mail to the Beacon Hill Office & Mail Center

    2. Allows the Beacon Hill Office & Mail Center to receive and sign for your packages and registered mail

  2. Identity documents required - Two types of identification are required. One must be a photo identification card

    • Forms of identification that are unacceptable by the Post Office are Social Security cards, credit cards, and birth certificates

    • Forms of identification that are acceptable by the Post Office are a valid driver's license, state non-driver's identification card, armed forces identification card, passport, alien registration card or certificate of naturalization; current lease, mortgage or Deed of Trust; voter or vehicle registration card; or a home or vehicle insurance policy
